Enjoyed this post, David.

Have been experiencing this lately for myself. I was extremely startled when my mentor suggested that instead of struggling to find more effective ways to communicate in a challenging situation, I simply take 3 days to hold internally what i felt the need to process, taking time to simply pay attention to all of my thoughts, feelings and hopes for the situation. A shocking suggestion to this verbal processor with years of training in various modalities!

To my astonishment and delight, far more resolution and relationship-building resulted from my "inaction" (accompanied by extensive listening/observing) than has ever come from my 'skilled' interventions.

So much can happen in that stillness that, by habit and training, we tend to fill up with talking and effort. REally appreciated reading your examples. Great reinforcement for pursuing a direction that can often feel 'against the grain'.
